Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS leads to muscle weakness, paralysis, and eventually, respiratory failure. Symptoms include muscle twitching, weakness, and difficulty speaking, swallowing, and breathing. The cause is largely unknown, although genetic and environmental factors may play a role. There is currently no cure for ALS, and treatments focus on managing symptoms and improving quality of life. The progressive nature of ALS highlights the need for ongoing research and support for individuals affected by this debilitating disease.
